Moving In Day

When your property nears its destination, you will be contacted and given a time of arrival. Most moving companies allow a two hour free wait period, after the driver arrives. When your belongings arrive at your new home you, or an authorized adult, must be there to accept the delivery, sign documents, and pay the mover (unless prior arrangements have been made). Preferred methods of payment are traveler’s checks, cashier’s checks, and credit cards with pre-acceptance from your movers. Personal checks are generally NOT taken.

As your possessions are being unloaded, check all items for any damages that may have occurred during transport on the moving truck. Also, if the moving company uses an inventory sheet, check off all items and the condition of those items now. If there are any damages or missing items, this is the time to file any claims with your moving agent. Proper inspection of all items and notes should be made BEFORE you sign the inventory sheet or bill of lading. Your signature, or your authorized representative’s, signifies that you have received your possessions with their conditions unchanged unless properly noted.

The movers will situate your household goods in your new home as directed by you. Moving companies are not contractually obligated to rearrange furniture after delivery. Appliances will be set in their location but not installed/connected. It is advised to not use electronic equipment for 24 hours, to let them adjust to changing temperatures.

SAFELY STORE ALL DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR MOVE. MOVING EXPENSES ARE DEDUCTABLE ON YOUR FEDERAL INCOME TAX FORM!
